EGO-STATE THERAPY
Who are you? Ever wonder why you act one way at work and a different way at home? How about when you are with friends for an evening or when you are with your family of origin? What about when you’re out drinking or using and when you are at church?
It follows that in certain situations, you are in your adult body and at times you are in your child ego state or teenage ego state, or perhaps your wild or acting-out ego-state.
Everyone has different ego states. It’s your family of selves that sometimes have very different ways of acting in the world. Being aware of your own family of ego states, known or unknown, can enhance the way you operate congruently in the world. Would it be helpful for you to understand what is shifting, when, and why? Most people would find this useful.
Would you like to know who’s on 1st base and acting at any given time? Are you interested in finding out what triggers one ego state to shift into another ego state? Are you interested in finding out who is talking in your head?
Ego-state therapy is a way to relate and become aware of the different parts of yourself, parts that like to overindulge (food, alcohol, sex…). Ego-state therapy is psychodynamic therapy that heightens your awareness of the parts of yourself. Some parts are sabotaging you and others have positive aspects. Parts can be fearful, depressed, anxious, wounded and or be very valuable at managing yourself and your behaviors.
Who wants parts of themselves causing unexpected shifts in their moods or actions that are running amuck. Would you like to stop the negative voice(s) in your head. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to relate to yourself in a way that has you gaining more control over your actions and behaviors and moving you in positive, life-enhancing ways, ways that could help you move toward your goals? After all, each of us has productive, action-oriented ego states, too.
What ego states do you want to explore, enhance, soothe, resolve long-standing issues that created that ego state? Does it appeal to you to operate as a well-tuned orchestra interiorly. It’s possible! Ego work is useful when working with internal conflicts, including trauma, PTSD, Complex PTSD, and dissociative disorders. Relief can come from exploring and working with the different parts of your selves.
